MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) – Community leaders say it appears the Moorhead Mosque was attacked late Wednesday night.
They say it happened around 11 p.m. at the Moorhead Fargo Islamic Center, 2215 12th Ave. S.
In a Facebook post, Cani Sangabo writes:
“I hate to share this news, but something awful happened last night. The Moorhead Mosque was attacked around 11 pm. It seems that someone tried to burn down the mosque. Let’s keep the community in our thoughts and hope for justice to prevail. Stay safe.”
However, Moorhead Police say the were called to the mosque for a man experiencing a mental health crisis.
They arrived shortly after midnight, for a report of a suspicious man, who appeared to be trying to break into the building. Police say officers attempted to de-escalate the man, who was in an obvious mental health crisis.
