Community honors life of Sterling Butch Rahe [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The community came together on Wednesday to honor a Toledo Fire and Rescue member gone too soon.

Private Sterling “Butch” Rahe died on New Year’s Day one year ago due to complications from an on-duty injury.

Family and friends welcomed the community to Toledo Memorial Gardens on Jan. 1 for a special event honoring Rahe’s lasting impact.

“I’m just grateful for everybody and the support throughout this whole year. It’s been a really hard year, and it’s great to be here with everyone today,” said Becky Rahe, Butch’s wife.

Private Rahe served his community for decades from working at the 180th to being a firefighter and paramedic for Springfield Township and TFRD.
