Community, employees devastated after Clayton County mattress warehouse fire [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Residents and employees are devastated after a mattress warehouse caught fire in Clayton County on Tuesday night.

Fire officials continued working into Wednesday and confirmed no one was hurt as the 200,000-square-foot warehouse burned in Rex.

Jerry Beddingfield owns a mill near the warehouse and watched the crews work.

“I worried about it because people stay in those buildings every now and then, so I was worried if anybody was in there,” he said.

Beddingfield told Atlanta News First he could barely sleep knowing what was happening in his community, and he wasn’t the only one.

“My heart broke. I thought it was a nightmare, and I woke up this morning hoping it was a nightmare, and unfortunately it was not,” said Rita Scott, a resident.
