Community devastated after Huntsville apartment fire displaces 16, man arrested for arson | News [Video]

Debris and personal items belonging to displaced residents litter the ground after a devastating fire at Biltmore Place Apartments. 

Police are patrolling the area to prevent theft of the victims’ belongings, according to the apartment owner.

The community says the pain it feels is beyond what anyone can imagine.

“She was crying, and I just told her I was gonna miss her and stuff, you know,” said one resident, Tina Cook.

“Yeah, she lost everything,” Cook, said about her friend Dorothy, after sharing a tearful goodbye. Tina expressed uncertainty about where her friend would live next.

Flames destroyed the remains of the apartment building. The owner, who spoke off camera, said he believes the fire reignited from Sunday’s fire at the same location.

“It was just flames everywhere,” said Cook, recalling the chaos.

Police arrested Jonathan Hughes, 37, on Monday and charged him with arson.

“He’s the devil,” Cook said, …
