Community Closet serves Marathon County for a full year [Video]

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – United Way Marathon County’s Community Closet celebrated one year of serving the Wausau Area on July 10.

The program opened its doors in July of 2023 after combining Rebecca’s Closet, for children’s clothes, and the Career Closet, for workwear, into one shop. Since then, Katy Bailey, United Way’s community engagement associate, said they’ve helped over 3,100 people get free clothing.

“We have all ages. There’s absolutely no requirements to be able to use the closet, and since our reopening, since we are open to the community, anybody and everybody can come in and get the clothing that we need for free,” Bailey said.

In November 2023, United Way introduced a “Mobile Closet,” a truck funded by a $100,000 Impact 100 Greater Wausau grant.

“We absolutely love being able to take that clothing further out into Marathon County where people might not be able to come here and get the clothing,” Bailey said.
