Commission honors longtime Wallace-Dothan president [Video]

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Houston County honored the career of Wallace Community College-Dothan President Linda Young.

She is retiring after 36 years as the first female head of a technical college in the state.

Young started her career as president in 1988 at Sparks State Technical College in Eufaula. Then when Wallace and Sparks merged in 1999, Dr. Young was appointed president of the newly merged institution.

Under her leadership, Wallace-Dothan earned national recognition for its programs and initiatives. This includes the honor of the top community college in the nation with the Award of Excellence for Student Success in 2017.

On Monday, the Houston County Commission honored her and proclaimed September 9, 2024, to be Linda Young Day across the county.
