Gonzalez’s tics were on full display during Sunday night’s broadcast, something he says he’s dealt with his whole life
ASHBURN, Va. — It’s one of the most stressful plays in sports: lining up a game winning kick in a tie game with three seconds to play and the weight of the franchise on your shoulders.
The country watched as Commanders kicker, Zane Gonzalez, nailed the 37-yard field goal to send Washington to the Divisional round, but not before they watched his pre-kick routine that looked like nerves. Football fans around the country watched Gonzalez fix his shoes and socks and play with his hair and helmet moments before the kick.
“You saw the reaction, people were like, ‘oh, he’s nervous,'” Gonzalez said referring to the social reaction to his tics. “It’s like okay, it’s not nervous, it’s kind of a tic type deal.
