Columbia Rotary Club prepares record number of turkeys | Mid-Missouri News [Video]

COLUMBIA — The Columbia Rotary Club is setting a new record this Thanksgiving, preparing to fry 405 turkeys for its fifth annual event to help feed community members in need. 

The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Fry has become a holiday tradition in the community, with families purchasing 255 turkeys and another 150 turkeys being donated to community partners such as Powerhouse Community Development Corporation, Salvation Army Harbor House and the Voluntary Action Center. 

Sheena Rice, the Rotary Club’s public image chair, said this turkey fry is the second largest in the country. 

“The largest turkey fry in the nation is in New Orleans, and they sell over 1,000,” Rice said. “We definitely did model our event off of theirs, but as far as we know, we are the second largest turkey fry in the country.”
