2025 has gotten off to a historically cold start. It’s winter, and it’s supposed to be cold. January is typically the Triad’s coldest month, but these temperatures are even cold for January. COLD YEAR SO FARHigh temperatures at PTI Airport stayed in the 30s for eight of the first eleven days of the year. The average high temperature during that period was 39.7 degrees, the eleventh coldest on record. For the sake of comparison, the high temperature in January is 49 degrees on a normal day.The January cold is even more impressive when you compare the high temperatures in January to those of late 2024. The final three months of 2024 were mild, especially in December.
