Coastal Bend Point-in-Time Survey to help address needs of homeless population [Video]

Organizations come together to get an accurate number on the homeless population to see what areas in the Coastal Bend are most in need.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Agencies from across the Coastal Bend came together on Thursday for the Texas Homeless Network’s Point-In-Time Survey. State agencies partnered with local police, volunteers and organizations to get an accurate number of homeless individuals throughout the Coastal Bend.

The survey helps the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development have a better understanding of the areas where resources or funds are needed.

3NEWS caught up with Homeless Issues Partnership Board Member Melissa Escamilla about Thursday’s count.

“We have seen an increase in homeless individuals in part because of the economy. We notice too that weather may be an issue as well, we are trying to navigate through the warming shelters and ours to make sure we have a good count,” said Escamilla.
