Climate adaptation research inside Wauwatosa forest [Video]

Right in the heart of Wauwatosa, researchers with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are working to better understand how to keep Wisconsin forests resilient as our climate changes.The climate adaptation research is happening at the Forest Exploration Center, a 60-acre forest in Wauwatosa.”What are some of the maybe limitations on management and what can we do going forward to improve our chances of being able to have a healthy for us here in the future?” said Brad Hutnik, a forest ecologist with the Wisconsin DNR.Hutnik helped develop the climate adaptation plan, which is the first of its kind in Wisconsin.The climate adaptation plan has a few projects already in place within the 60-acre forest.”We’ve put in some gaps in the forest, kind of mimicking a large tree falling down on its own.
