The U.S. Marshals Service said an officer fired “at least” one round at William Abney after the murder suspect produced a handgun as law enforcement approached him.
CLEVELAND — A man wanted by Cleveland police in connection to a fatal shooting in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood this week died by suicide Thursday afternoon after he carried a weapon as law enforcement attempted to approach him, authorities said.
The U.S. Marshals Service’s Northern Ohio field office said in a press release that members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force were involved in a “critical incident” with William Abney, who was accused of fatally shooting Nicholas Mizikar twice at “point blank range” on Tuesday.
According to the Marshals Service, law enforcement officials learned Abney was in a wooded area near Pearl Road and Henninger Road in Cleveland. Officers approached the field and saw Abney walking in the area.
