Clean it up, fix it up, or sell it. No more slum: Community leaders call to repurpose North Jackson eye sore [Video]

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – If you visit the old Golf World property along North State Street, you will see overgrown weeds, busted-out windows, and trash on the ground, but it has not always been that way.

The building used to be full of fun, family-friendly entertainment.

“It just decays through the years, and now it looks like this,” said Timothy White, president of Youth Outreach Company.

Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes says the growing number of abandoned properties should no longer be tolerated in the capital city.

“Are we going to allow this community to become a slum without a fight? I say no. If we have already spent millions over here, then we‘re going to make these property owners do the right thing and take care of that property,” Stokes said.

Over the last several years, many businesses have left Jackson, leaving kids to find entertainment in surrounding cities.
