Citys entire SWAT team resigns over pay dispute [Video]

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (KPHO/Gray News) – An Arizona city has lost its specially trained tactical unit, commonly known as the SWAT team, due to an ongoing dispute when it comes to compensation.

City of Goodyear officials confirmed on Friday that the Goodyear Police Department’s Special Assignment Unit collectively submitted a letter of resignation this week.

“We respect our employees’ right to express their grievances and are dedicated to finding a resolution that honors both their rights and our commitment to the community,” a spokesperson for the city said. “Department leadership is actively working with the affected employees to address their concerns.”

According to city officials, the resignations impact the officers’ service on the SAU team, while all others will continue their regular full-time duties with the department.

Goodyear officials stressed that the circumstances don’t pose any new or additional risk to the community.
