NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A day after a contractor sued the New Orleans City Council in an attempt to force acceptance of a sanitation contract for the French Quarter and Downtown, Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s administration announced it is seeking emergency bids to continue garbage pickups later this month.
Kellermeyer Bergensons Services’ trash collection contract with the city expires Dec. 22, and a new contract with Henry Consulting LLC was inked earlier this year.
That contract was supposed to start Dec. 23, with Henry Consulting subcontracting with Richard’s Disposal to handle garbage and recycling collection at more than 4,000 locations across the neighborhoods.
But Richard’s Disposal and Henry Consulting — owned by businessman Troy Henry — had a dispute over payment. Henry decided to hire a different subcontractor when Richard’s wouldn’t budge, according to Henry’s civil suit.
