City officials continue to work on plans to find space for homeless in Rutland [Video]

The state of Vermont has already started to set up emergency homeless shelters in Williston and Waterbury. Rutland City Mayor Mike Doenges said it is unlikely that the city will be able to set one up unless a suitable property becomes available. “We’ve recommended a couple of locations; the city doesn’t necessarily have anything readily available,” he said. “People are recommending using facilities that we have, but those facilities are already in use for other purposes and to take them offline again without staffing would be troublesome.”Doenges added he is working with the city’s homeless coordinator team to find what he said is a less traditional solution: calling on community members to help.”We find landlords that have places that quickly can be fixed up or property owners that have places they can quickly be fixed up, and do segmented, meaning, put some people over here and put some families over …
