City of Milton to end recycling program what current customers need to know [Video]

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Milton residents and customers of the Milton Recycling Program will be seeing some changes and saving some money as the city announced the closure of the program.

According to a city press release, the recycling program will be terminated on Oct. 1, 2024.

“The reality is that less than 10% of collected materials nationwide are actually recycled, and Milton has faced similar challenges,” said City Manager Ed Spears.

“Over the past two years, none of our recycling loads have been accepted due to contamination. As a result, much of what we collect is sent directly to landfills, which defeats the purpose of the program and increases costs.”

Following the closure of the program that started in 2015, the city shared the next steps for current recycling customers.
