MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The City of Memphis is spending a pretty penny for a consultant to analyze and help fix Memphis’ broken bus system.
But what exactly does a Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) makeover look like?
Before Memphis’ struggling public transit system can be built back up, city leaders need a full breakdown of exactly how MATA wound up $60 million in the red.
Two audits are currently underway to determine the financial and operational effectiveness of the city’s bus and trolley services.
Action News 5 asked Mayor Paul Young if the right board of commissioners is in place to lead MATA into the future.
“Well, we’re certainly going to be looking at the board,” said Mayor Young, “We’ll be looking at everything related to MATA over the next couple of weeks and months.”
