City of Hickory, FEMA dispel rumors about temporary mobile home relief post-Helene [Video]

HICKORY, N.C. (WBTV) – Following misinformation swirling on social media about the temporary mobile home relief FEMA committed to Hurricane Helene survivors, the city of Hickory and FEMA set the record straight this week.

This recent rumor is the latest in the misinformation that has emerged following Helene. The rumor suggested hundreds of mobile homes were being assembled at Hickory Regional Airport and not given to those who were approved to receive them. The city of Hickory and FEMA told WBTV that is just not true.

Not only did the city of Hickory tell WBTV FEMA is not assembling or staging any mobile units or trailers on their property like the rumor suggests, the city said it has not happened in the past either.

Further dispelling the rumor, FEMA told us the travel trailers and manufactured housing is constructed outside of the state and wheeled in.
