FRANKLIN, Ky. (WBKO) – Built in 1872, The Old Franklin Grade and Highschool is located in the first African American community in Simpson County and is one of the last buildings standing from that era.

“My dad went to this school. And if he’d be living, he’d be 108 years old. So that’s kind of how old this school building is,” Franklin City Commissioner Herbert Williams said.

The City of Franklin is funding renovations for the exterior of the building.

“We are so we’re so happy that the city went into this partnership with us and just bought this building back to life Because after 100 years, you know it’s getting pretty bad shape on the outside. So, we just really appreciate them working with us on that,” President of the African American Heritage Board of Directors Alice Bailey.
