City of Folly Beach to build a history museum [Video]

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCSC) – The city of Folly Beach is planning to build a history museum.

The museum will be added on to the community center and library building that is one of the first things you see when driving down the very popular Center Street.

Officials say that Folly has a rich history, and they wanted there to be a way to share it with both residents and visitors.

“It ranges from the Civil War to the Porgy and Bess house with the Gershwin aspect as well as the pier, Lighthouse Inlet and everything in between,” Councilwoman Katherine Houghton said.

The city allocated about $125,000 for this project in their last budget cycle meeting.

Through things such as historic artifacts, literature and photographs, the museum will take people back to the Civil War on Folly, all the way through to where the city is today.
