City of Bakersfields Fellowship program meant to introduce young professionals to careers in local government [Video]

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern Community Foundation has launched the City of Bakersfield’s 2024-2025 Youth Jobs Program City Hall Fellowship application for young people aged 18 to 30 years old.

The Bakersfield Youth Jobs Program Manager, Michelle Dambaev-Tieu and Juan Heredia, the City Manager’s Senior Analyst, joined 17 News at Noon to discuss what young professionals can expect from the fellowship.

The program caters to recent college graduates and individuals looking for a career pathways within city government. “Fellows will work and learn with staff in various departments in budget management, prepare and present reports, and attend workshops covering professional and civic development.

“It’s a great way to opportunity to get to know each department. We’ve had folks work within public works, City manager’s office, economic community department. Each department provides a unique set of projects and skills,” Heredia said.
