City looking to partner with water system for new source [Video]

The city of Pickens is looking to partner with Greenville Water to change the source of its drinking water for the next century.Pickens City Council Monday night will be considering an interim agreement with Greenville Water. City Administrator Tim O’Briant said the driving force behind the move is to get higher quality water quicker and cheaper for its citizens. “We’re already hooked up to their system, and we can just turn the spigot and change our water source within weeks,” O’Briant said. The decision comes weeks after the city withdrew from the Pickens Regional Joint Water System. If approved, the city’s water source will switch from City Lake to Lake Keowee.”It’s just superior to what we have in City Lake,” O’Briant said. “City Lake is not Lake Keowee. It has manganese issues, and it takes a lot of treatment to get that water to where it’s in good condition.”O’Briant said …
