Sunday afternoon, city leaders and community members gathered at Kings Road Memorial Park for an event to honor the victims and support survivors of the shooting.
The event included a soil collection ceremony and the unveiling of renderings for a memorial marker to pay tribute to the victims.
A group of volunteers are working to collect soil from places around Jacksonville that have been the scene of racially motivated killings.
