FORT SMITH, Ark. — The traveling entertainment group Cirque Italia is making waves by bringing its Water Circus to Fort Smith from Aug. 22 – 25.
The event, suspended over a 35,000-gallon stage, is set to bring “unique aerial acts, hand balancing, contortionists, and many more surprise performances that are breathtaking,” according to an event page.
A press release from Cirque Italia invites eventgoers to “embark on a comedic escapade with Rafael the clown as he seamlessly transitions from farm life to the dazzling lights of the city, weaving humor into both worlds.”
Many of the performances take place mid-air, tethered to ropes and pulleys that “embrace the free-spirited essence of the 1960’s hippie culture and revel in the rebellious energy of juggling, injecting a punk-rock flair into the traditional circus ambiance.”
