CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Cincinnati Public Schools has changed the kickoff times of several high school football games after threats and community violence.
Several of the adjusted games involve Stargel Stadium, which was in the vicinity of shootings on Sept. 12 and Sept. 19.
Western Hills at Hughes was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Stargel Stadium on Thursday, but officials moved the kickoff to 5 p.m.
Two North College Hill games (which isn’t part of Cincinnati Public Schools) had games interrupted by nearby shootings, including a game last week against Woodward that ended with one player shot in the leg. Another game was canceled due to concerns over violence.
“We really looked at some of the recent threats and some of the uptick in violence recently around some of the games,” CPS Athletic Director Josh Hardin said. “(We) really wanted to provide our kids an opportunity to play and do it in the safest way possible.”
