Children and grandchildren of soldiers who served at Pearl Harbor pay respect in Redding | News [Video]

REDDING, Calif. – 83 years ago today was the attack on Pearl Harbor that killed and injured more than 3,500 American troops and civilians. 

Local community members and families of Pearl Harbor survivors gathered outside of the Shasta County Administration Building on Saturday for a ceremony to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, which occurred Dec. 7, 1941.

The Sons and Daughter of The Pearl Harbor Survivors Group began its ceremony with a moment of silence at 9:55 a.m. on Pearl Harbor Day. In Hawaii Standard Tim, that is when the Japanese military first attacked the American Naval Base. 

A few local sons of Pearl Harbor survivors shared their families stories.

Mike Woodrum, the event coordinator, talked about his dad, explaining, “He was at Wheeler Field and he was just getting out of the shower when the attack hit. “
