CHICO, Calif. – The Chico Fire Department held its annual 9/11 memorial today at Chico Fire Station 5.
Dozens of community members gathered at Chico Fire Station 5’s memorial to remember the lives that were lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
“We made a promise after the events of 9/11 to never forget,” Chico Fire Battalion Chief Wes Metroka said. “As a fire department and as a community, we vowed to uphold that promise. Each year we meet out here on Sept. 11, and we have a ceremony and remembrance of the events that happened that day, the lives that were lost, and the sacrifices that were made.”
Chico Fire hosted a bell ringing, raised the flag to half-staff, and had a moment of silence for the thousands who lost their lives 23 years ago on this day. …
