The four people killed on a Chicagoland commuter train early on the morning of Labor Day appeared to be sleeping when they were fatally shot.
A suspect was arrested Monday, Sept. 2, after allegedly shooting four people on a Chicago Transit Authority train in Forest Park, Ill., just before 5:30 a.m., the Village of Forest Park said in a press release.
Neither the suspect nor the victims have been publicly identified by authorities.
CNN, NBC News and ABC 7 reported that officials, including Forest Park Deputy Police Chief Chris Chin and Mayor Rory Hoskins, said the victims were sleeping when they were shot.
“These victims, likely, never saw it coming,” Hoskins told ABC. “They were executed on Labor Day. In our community, people go to the pool. They go to the park. You know, they barbecue. But, today, a lot of people were calling the mayor’s office, expressing concern and asking if they were safe.”
