Check from 1998 found more than 100 miles away after tornado hits church [Video]

ARGYLE, Wis. (WKOW) – A check made out more than 25 years ago recently made its way around social media and the state of Wisconsin.

The check, made out by the Apple Grove Cemetery Association on June 30, 1998, was found near Milwaukee the day after an EF-2 tornado destroyed the Apple Grove Lutheran Church in Argyle, Wisconsin.

The distance between those two locations is more than 100 miles.

The historic Apple Grove Lutheran Church is completely gone after years of hosting services and gatherings. The church saw numerous weddings, first communions, and baptisms over the years.

Brenda Lantz is a fifth-generation church member.

“It’s gone, but we still have those memories,” she said.

Lantz’s great-grandfather was a founder of the church when it was originally built in 1893.

“My family has been very involved with the church,” Lantz said.
