URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A non-binding question is on the ballot for Cunningham Township, which encompasses the City of Urbana, regarding the defunding of Israel’s military.
CU Muslim Action, UC Jews for Ceasefire and others organized a news conference to show their support. Proponents said a yes-vote would show politicians where the community stands on support for Palestine.

“We want to gauge the public response to this, which we believe, generally speaking, most of the public right now is of the opinion that there should be an arms embargo at this point,” said Dua Aldasouqi, member of the CU Muslim Action Committee. “We’re out here just making sure people know that this question is on the ballot and what it means and how to answer it.”
Opponents say Israel needs continued U.S. support so they can protect the country from surrounding threats, like the attack on Oct. 7th.
