DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) – Central Iowa Veterans are giving warm and soft gifts to those in need KCCI’s Ben Kaplan reported. Dozens of Iowans are a bit more comfortable thanks to the Beaverdale VFW Auxiliary 9127. The group is crafting tie blankets for the seniors living at Calvin Community.
“I like to do stuff like this,” Diane Hooten, a longtime Auxiliary member said.
Some of the blankets will also be given to Easterseals Iowa.
“We do give tie blankets to some of the kids that come through our crisis stabilization program,” Easterseals Iowa Chief Development Officer Allison Piazza explained. “It’s a nice comfort item to give them during a kind of scary time in their life.”
People with disabilities and veterans will also receive the blankets thanks to an almost 60-year-old relationship the Auxiliary has with the organizations.
