ROANOKE (25News Now) – Students across Central Illinois are utilizing their creative writing skills to inform others through local news stories.
Peoria Academy seventh graders are honing their skills through a journalism club, started by Emelia Stevenson and Ammini Guzzardo.
“I just think it’s important for people to understand how the newer generation is seeing these problems, and how we might deal with it,” Stevenson said.
The students interview their peers about school events and topics that affect them and their communities, such as the impacts of social media on mental health and why college tuition costs are high.
“I thought that a journalism club and a newspaper would be a great way to write and talk to my classmates and the people at the school about things that are happening,” Guzzardo said.
