People are upset their deceased loved ones would be disrespected by throwing a Halloween event at a Eugene cemetery

EUGENE, Ore. – A spokesperson for West Lawn Memorial Park confirms their planned October 30 “Spooky Family Fun” event has been canceled due to community backlash.

According to a digital flyer posted to social media, the event advertised a free, family-friendly Halloween event at the cemetery which including hay rides around the cemetery grounds, family games in the mausoleum, a movie showing of “Hocus Pocus 2” in the chapel and more.

“Due to concerns expressed by community members, the Spooky Family Fun Night at West Lawn Memorial Park has been canceled,” the spokesperson said.

The digital flyer sparked lots of comments online questioning the appropriateness of a Halloween event on cemetery grounds.

The original flyer posted to social media shows a Halloween themed “spooky” event for families to enjoy.
