Celebrating diversity, creativity: Hundreds enjoy Geek Out at Staten Island at Snug Harbor (109 photos) [Video]

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – With Tropical Storm Debby’s rain gone, sunny skies returned to Staten Island in time for Saturday’s Geek Out At Staten Island – a convention dedicated to celebrating, encouraging, and promoting geek culture right in your backyard.

Hundreds attended the convention at South Meadows at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden in Livingston.

The convention was started by Najah Abdul-Qawiyy, the Arts and Culture Director of Muslim Sisters of Staten Island, in July 2019. It celebrates important elements of geek culture, such as cosplay, while also celebrating diversity and creativity.

The all-day event was packed with performances, including the Kogyoku Yosakoi Japanese Dance Group, American J-Pop and dance group Julily Infinite and Anna Banana, and an array of local talent from across the boroughs.
