CCRTA holds event to prevent trafficking [Video]

The summit taught attendees how to spot signs of human trafficking and support survivors.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority hosted its first-ever human trafficking summit on Friday to teach attendees how to spot signs of trafficking and support survivors.

The summit featured local, state and federal law enforcement officials, anti-trafficking advocates and experts from across the country.

Over 100 community members attended the summit.

Deputy CEO of CCRTA Miguel Rendon said the problem is closer than residents may realize.

“Well the human trafficking issue it’s among us it’s right in front of us and we don’t even notice, it could be a person working at a bar or a restaurant,” he said.

Moving forward, Rendon said he hopes the law enforcement officers continue the conversation with each other on how they fight against human trafficking together.
