California Authorities Announce Curfews in Areas Affected by Fires [Video]

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Friday imposed a mandatory curfew in zones affected by wildfires.

The curfew order will cover the Pacific Palisades and Eaton fire areas, and it will run from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. local time.

“You cannot be in these affected areas. If you are, you are subject to arrest,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said during a press conference. “We’re doing it to protect the structures, the houses that people have left because we ordered them to leave.”

Why It Matters

The Palisades fire has been roaring through Los Angeles County, spreading throughout the region spurred by strong winds.

The Pacific Palisades fire, the most destructive wildfire in Los Angeles history, has scorched nearly 20,000 acres, according to CAL FIRE’s latest figures, but as the images show, some areas of land and structures have managed to escape the flames.
