Calera police officer starts youth mentorship program for young men [Video]

CALERA, Ala. (WBRC) – A mentorship program for young men in Calera is working to teach valuable life skills to boost their confidence and independence.

The program “for the people youth mentorship” was started by Calera Police Officer Brandon Allen.

Officer Allen says the purpose of the program is to help build a bridge for these young men to succeed, and that starts with building connections and offering positive role models who can make a lasting impact and help these young men succeed.

With help from other officers and community volunteers so far, the program has hosted two events with many more on the way.

Officer Allen has been with Calera PD for several years and has always been a community police officer that engages with kids.

After having a heart-to-heart with one kid, Allen says he realized this was his purpose in life and started the mentorship program.
