Caldwell Parish Police Jury unveils plans for Hurricane Creek Clean Out Project [Video]

CALDWELL PARISH, La. (KNOE) – The Caldwell Parish Police Jury has unveiled its plans for a Hurricane Creek Clean Out Project.

The Police Jury says the creek has not been cleaned out since the 1980s and has flooded the area for residents and damage to their homes. The creek has also caused flood damage to Caldwell Parish High School.

The Caldwell Parish Police Jury President, Mark Black says they are using funds from a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant. The project is estimated to cost around 1.7 million dollars.

“We have some pretty significant flooding along the creek. There are fifty to seventy houses that are affected and so we are hopeful that this project will lessen flooding risk for residents.”

Phase one of the project is expected to begin by January of 2025.
