OROVILLE, Calif. – Dozens of children from across Butte County headed to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office Friday for it’s annual Holiday Bike Giveaway.
Action News Now spoke with Butte County Sheriff’s Kory Honea, who discussed the annual event.
“It has been going on for decades,” said Honea. “It actually started with Sheriff Larry Gillick, who served as sheriff many, many, many years ago, and it’s a tradition that we’ve tried to keep alive.”
Each year, in a collaboration between the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the Butte County Office of Education, and community partners, both newly donated bicycles and refurbished bicycles are gathered together to be handed out to children in Butte County.
