Growing up on Cleveland’s West Side in the 1980s, I experienced the resilience and camaraderie embodied in Michael Cimino’s 1978 film, “The Deer Hunter.” This film’s portrayal of working-class life amid the Vietnam War’s impact offers a blueprint for unity. “The Deer Hunter” resonates with the rust belt ethos, highlighting loyalty, sacrifice, and the American Dream — values central to both moderate Republicans and progressive Democrats.

Tammy Duckworth in Illinois embodies Stan’s sense of duty, while U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore in Wisconsin channels Linda’s compassionate nature.
