Brown County highlights severe weather awareness week [Video]

BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) – The arrival of spring also comes with a risk of severe weather. On Tuesday, leaders in Brown County proclaimed this as tornado and severe weather awareness week.

Leaders in Brown County say, statistically, the county is under the crosshairs of the severe weather multiple times every year.

“Over the last 30 years, Brown County has averaged 5 severe weather events per year, with categories such as lightning, strong winds, hail or tornadoes. In that same span, Brown County has averaged one tornado every other year,” said Dan Kane, the Brown County Emergency Management Director.

Wisconsin Emergency Management, in conjunction with the National Weather Service, will conduct two statewide tornado drills on Thursday, April 11. The first is at 1:45 in the afternoon so schools and businesses can practice their emergency plans. The second is at 6:45 in the evening so families can practice at home.
