Brooklyn Heights company helps bring internet to Alaska [Video]

There are still communities in the United States without internet infrastructure. Now a Brooklyn Heights company is making connections to solve that problem.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, Ohio — PMI Underwater Cable Solutions is used to working on big things. On the factory floor sits large spools of cable, up to a mile long. The Brooklyn Heights company manufactures, tests, and installs cable connections for global clients in the industries of Navy and defense, oil and gas, and ocean exploration.

“We’re really good at coming up with solutions to people’s challenges,” said Bob Centa, the President and CEO of PMI.

Now, they are venturing into a new field: telecommunications, driven by a customer’s unique request.

“They had a unique need up in Alaska to deliver fiber optic and internet into underserved communities,” Centa said. “And currently, quite a bit of Alaska, does not have internet access.”
