Christa Yoakam’s work began in health care, shifted to advocacy and — in 2019 — to elected office.
In the five years Yoakum’s been a Lancaster County commissioner, her background has informed her work, and the progress that commissioners have made on the board’s social service obligations is among the accomplishments she’s most proud of, she said.
Those accomplishments include reentry programs for jail inmates and beefing up other alternatives to incarceration, opening SquareOne — a youth and family behavioral health crisis center — in collaboration with Region V Systems and Centerpointe, and work with resettlement communities.
“Those are things that I’m really glad we are making some strides in, both because we have (federal American Rescue Plan Act) funding coming in but also because I serve on the Region V Systems board and there’s really good … collaboration between agencies.”
