On Thursday, county leaders and partners broke ground on a new apartment development in North Bethesda that is supposed to provide affordable housing to more than 160 families.
The Chimes at North Bethesda on Nebel Street is expected to bring 163 multifamily rental units.
During a media briefing Wednesday, County Executive Marc Elrich said the apartments will help families who make too much money to qualify for federal housing assistance but still struggle financially to meet rents.
Elrich said Thursday that 72 units will be “deeply affordable” for residents who make 30-50% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which would start around a $46,000 income for a family of four.
