Brazos Valley Beekeepers Association starting youth program [Video]

The Brazos Valley Beekeepers Association is seeking the next group of teenagers for their new youth class.

The organization is seeking children from the greater Bryan-College Station area (including Hearne, Navasota, Iola) who have an interest in beekeeping.

The youth program is a two-year program where kids who participate earn their own beehives and equipment (value is well over $1,000). In addition, kids who complete the program are eligible for a cash scholarship when they graduate high school. To date, well over $10,000 has been awarded to local graduates from the program, according to a press release.

There is also an annual “Beekeeping School,” a one-day event for people of all ages who are interested in beekeeping. The funds from the beekeeping school is the primary way the youth program is funded. The beekeeping school is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14 at First Baptist Church in Bryan.
