Bond proposal for former Pine Trail Camp removed from ballot [Video]

Saugatuck Township had hoped to purchase the privately-owned land and turn it into a community park.

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — The Saugatuck Township Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to withdraw the $3.6 million bond proposal for the former Pine Trail Camp property from the Nov. 5 ballot. 

The decision was made during a special meeting on Wednesday. 

“Due to recent developments related to the purchase of the former Pine Trail Camp property, we must respectfully withdraw our bond proposal request from the Nov. 5 ballot,” said Saugatuck Township Manager Daniel DeFranco. 

Pine Trail Camp, located at 3525 Dugout Road, used to function as an overnight summer camp. It’s been closed to campers since 2021. 

The former camp is a 20-acre lot with 350 feet of waterfront access to the Kalamazoo River.
