U.S. equities were edging upward around midday, bouncing back a bit after yesterday’s selloff, as the market awaits a key report on consumer inflation. The Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq were all modestly higher.

Shares of Alaska Air Group (ALK) soared when the airline launched a strategic plan aimed at boosting profit and raised its guidance. Alphabet (GOOGL) shares popped after the tech giant unveiled a quantum computing chip called “Willow.”

Oracle (ORCL) shares slumped when the database software firm missed profit and sales estimates and cut its outlook as it faces stiff competition in the cloud computing market.
