Bluesfest cancelled: Why it shouldn’t surprise anyone given the dire state of Australia’s music festival scene [Video]

Another pillar in Australia’s crumbling music festival scene has fallen today with the shocking news Byron Bay Bluesfest is calling it quits after 35 years of live music.

Its 2025 event will be its last, Festival director Peter Noble confirmed in a press release, as the country’s list of remaining live music festivals grows ever shorter.

“As much as it pains me to say this, it’s time to close this chapter,” Noble said.

“As I said earlier this year at Bluesfest 2024, next year’s festival will be happening and it definitely is, but it will be our last.”

Though fans were devastated when they woke up to the shocking news on Wednesday morning, they really shouldn’t be surprised.
