Bloomington-Normal YMCA partners with Girls on the Run Central Illinois to mentor, inspire girls [Video]

BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL (25News Now) – There’s a new effort in the Twin Cities to help young girls find their confidence.

The Bloomington-Normal YMCA will kick off its partnership with the Girls on the Run Central Illinois on Sept. 2. The organization partners with different groups to provide sites for girls to build and grow their self-confidence through mentorship and friendship.

The 10-week program involves 15 girls between the 3rd and 6th grades. They will finish by running a 5K.

Breena Campbell, the wellness director at the YMCA, said it is a great opportunity for girls to grow.

“It’s teaching them how to deal with hard things and showing how they can grow. Each practice has a lesson that goes with it,” Campbell said.

The girls will meet with their mentors twice a week during the 10-week program, Campbell said this also serves as a way to build their network with others.
